Becoming my Best

Ok my beautiful friends, today we are going to chat about one of my favorite things… Personal Development! As much as I absolutely love it, I really kinda hate that term. It’s just so overused and has become cliche’. I feel like most people hear it and internally roll their eyes a little because it’s something everyone has preached on forever. So feel free to call it whatever you want, but I think I’m going to call it self-enhancement – At least for now, until I come up with an even better term for it.So what is “Self-Enhancement”? It’s exactly what it sounds like. A way to improve yourself and become a little bit stronger, a little bit closer to the person God designed you to be.What does “Self-Enhancement” look like? Well, it can look a lot of different ways. It can be reading a book that gives you helpful tips or inspires you, studying the Bible, listening to an audiobook or podcast, spending quiet time with the Lord in reflection and prayer, or even having dinner or coffee with a good friend who encourages you. It’s about doing things that fuel you and leave you feeling more equipped to face your day! And it is not optional.If you want to be he best version of yourself, if you want to feel whole and energized, and empowered, you must do some form of “Self-Enhancement” every single day! I am being 100% honest, when I say that if I miss a day, I notice. And everyone around me notices too.This has become so evident to me lately. For the past year, I have been waking up about an hour before my kids and making sure I spend time in prayer or some other kind of self-enhancement. A few weeks ago, I was feeling especially tired and I skipped a few mornings of this in a row. My husband looked at me and very lovingly reminded me that I needed to get back into my routine. Actually, it maybe wasn’t the most loving way he could have chose, but it was so effective. He said in a rather annoyed tone, “Go spend some time with Jesus! Because you are a much nicer person when you do!” I still remember his words every time I am tempted to sleep in and skip this time of self-enhancement.Here are a few of my favorite things that might help you get started:✔️Read either one Psalm or Proverb each morning and take time to really reflect on the meaning of each word you are reading. I make notes in the margin of my bible as I go. ✔️Participate in a group study of a book or part of the Bible. If you don’t know of any others to participate in, I am currently helping to lead one that begins next week. It’s on “Crash The Chatterbox” by Steven Furtick. We would love to have you join us! This one is LIFE-CHANGING! (Actually, I would love to see us do it as a group study once we are finished with the Crash The Chatterbox). “Girl, Wash Your Face” is absolutely incredible!!
